About the Inventor Dr. Vargas

Dr. Eladio Vargas has been a practicing physician in a northern suburb of Chicago for the past thirty-five years. In 2013, he became a member of the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group, a large medical group affiliated with the Northwestern University Medical Center.

Dr. Vargas first came to the United States from Heredia, a small city in Costa Rica, where as a high school student he was awarded a one-year scholarship to study and live with an American family in Highland Park, Illinois. He returned to Costa Rica after that year and continued his studies in physics, general philosophy, and eventually medicine at the National University of Costa Rica. Upon finishing medical school, he came back to the United States for further training at the Northwestern University Medical School Hospitals in Evanston and Chicago.

Throughout his career as a physician, Dr. Vargas has had many creative ideas on how to improve the quality of life of others. His first big idea came to him during a radiology course in medical school. He conceived of a simple optical and mechanical way to produce a cross-section image of the human body using x-ray machines, an idea that was later developed and became the basis for what is now known as the CAT Scan.  Many years later, while in private medical practice, he partnered with an electrical engineer who had developed satellite communications at Bell Laboratories. With his vision, technical support, resources, and business connections, they tried to develop the first computer-based national medical records database. This satellite-based communications system would have allowed doctors to communicate with each other, hospitals, pharmacies and medical facilities 24 hours a day, all at a time well before the Internet.

His latest innovation is the Triplx™ 3-1 Tire™ System. Having witnessed several highway accidents stemming from blowouts, Dr. Vargas focused his imaginative skills to create a tire that would improve safety on the road. He soon designed a tire with three independent air chambers embedded in a single shell. If one chamber experiences a puncture or blowout, the additional chambers will provide enough stability for the driver to remain in control of the vehicle and continue to a safe location.

Dr. Vargas plans to meet with car and tire manufactures to bring the Triplx™ 3-1 Tire™ System to customers worldwide. His goal is to further advance automotive technology for the benefit of everyone’s health and safety.
